On buildings of this age, the openings and edges of the wall are worth checking first. Brick veneer over wood studs is built with an air space behind it, at least 1 inch under BIA guidance, and drains through flashing and weep holes at its base, at lintels and sills, and where porches or stairs attach; when that flashing fails, water stays in the wall. Rust on a steel lintel can take up to ten times the space of the steel it came from, cracking the brick above a window or door. The ground adds stress too.
