Services Offered in Fort Wayne, IN

Masonry Contractor Services

Brick, block, and stone repair, repointing, lintel repair, masonry restoration, and new masonry construction for residential and commercial properties throughout Fort Wayne and Allen County. From Greek Revival and Late Victorian homes in the West Central Historic District to Colonial Revival and Tudor residences along Harrison Hill, our Fort Wayne crews handle everything from single-family tuckpointing to multi-phase restoration projects on commercial facades and institutional buildings. Every project starts with a thorough assessment of the building envelope to identify the root cause of deterioration, not just a surface-level patch.

Tuckpointing Services

Expert tuckpointing and repointing to restore failing mortar joints on Fort Wayne’s aging masonry buildings. Mortar matching is critical on the city’s older homes: buildings from the late 1800s and early 1900s in neighborhoods like West Central and South Wayne typically use lime-based mortar that should not be patched with modern portland cement. We match mortar composition to the original formulation so repairs protect the brick rather than create a hardness mismatch that traps moisture and accelerates spalling.

Chimney Repair & Rebuilding

Chimney inspection, repair, rebuilding, crown repair, cap installation, and chimney waterproofing for Fort Wayne homes and commercial buildings. Fort Wayne chimneys are fully exposed on all sides and take the worst freeze-thaw punishment on the building. Ice damming at the roofline accelerates mortar failure, and water entry through cracked crowns or deteriorated flashing can cause interior damage long before the chimney shows obvious exterior problems. We assess the full structure from cap to flue and address issues before they become structural failures.

Bricklayer Services

Brick repair, replacement, and installation with precise matching of color, size, texture, and bond pattern. Fort Wayne’s building stock includes a range of brick types from different eras: hand-molded brick on pre-Civil War structures, pressed brick on Late Victorian homes, and standard modern brick on newer construction. Matching replacement material to the original is especially important on homes in the city’s designated historic districts, where visible repairs can affect both property value and preservation compliance.

Concrete Services

Concrete repair for steps, walkways, porches, patios, driveways, and small structural elements affected by cracking, settlement, or surface wear. Fort Wayne’s freeze-thaw cycles and road salt exposure cause concrete to spall and heave over time. We restore safe, level surfaces that hold up through harsh Indiana winters and heavy seasonal use.

Stucco Contractor Services

Stucco repair and restoration for cracked, bulging, or water-damaged exterior surfaces on residential and commercial buildings. Stucco on Fort Wayne buildings is susceptible to freeze-thaw cracking and moisture infiltration, particularly on older structures where the original stucco was applied directly over masonry without a modern drainage plane. We address both the surface damage and the underlying moisture path.

Waterproofing Services

Masonry and foundation waterproofing, sealing, and moisture control solutions designed to reduce water intrusion and protect structures from long-term deterioration. Fort Wayne’s flat terrain and high water table create below-grade moisture problems, particularly on older homes with stone or brick foundations. We use breathable sealants and drainage corrections that let trapped moisture escape without sealing it inside the wall where it causes more damage.

Building Restoration Services

Restoration of aging and historic masonry facades, including brick repair, mortar replacement, limestone repair, terra cotta restoration, EIFS repairs, and structural reinforcement. Fort Wayne has one of the richest collections of historic architecture in Indiana, with over 50 properties and districts on the National Register. We work with property owners, preservation boards, and building managers to restore facades that meet both structural and historic preservation standards, maintaining the original character that makes Fort Wayne’s neighborhoods distinctive.

Why Fort Wayne Property Owners Choose Us

Founded by Les O’Hara in 1978, North Shore Masonry has spent over four decades delivering honest work and lasting results. Our Fort Wayne team holds a 5.0-star rating on Google. We’re MCAA-certified, carry full liability insurance, and back every project with a 2-year labor and material warranty.

Many of our crews have been with the company for 15+ years. The same experienced tradespeople show up on your job site, not rotating subcontractors. That consistency matters in Fort Wayne, where historic homes require careful mortar matching and preservation-sensitive techniques that general contractors often get wrong.

North Shore did an amazing job replacing an entire wall of brick veneer that was degrading on the side of my house. The new brick seamlessly matches with the existing brick and you can tell that a high level attention to detail was used to complete the job. There were a few hick-ups along the way but project manager Luke and crew lead Roman went above and beyond to make certain I was informed throughout the process and that I received the best value for the work that was done and they even threw in a few extras. I wouldn't hesitate to contact them again if I need other masonry work done to my house in the future.

I had a good experience working with Luke and Julio at NS Masonry. The overall craftsmanship was better than I expected, and Julio who rebuilt my front steps did a great job. My front steps were degrading due to weather and elements and NS Masonry offered me a few options to repair or replacement my front steps and platform. The process was relatively easy to pick the best solution. I do recommend having them bring out the pavers/bluestone/etc. before you select your solution as its hard to evaluate from pictures. I would recommend NS Masonry to my neighbors.

Luke and the North Shore Brickwork team were fantastic! After having used multiple masonry companies for different projects, we saw a post from the owner on Facebook and decided to reach out JUST before signing with another company. From quote to completion, everything was smooth, fair, and professional. Luke was VERY communicative and made the entire process quick easy. The crew was solid, did great work, and came back very quickly to finish some final details. The end result - tuckpointing, glass block windows and a new sistered wood beam - all look awesome and we're already planning to use them again for an interior brick project soon. Thanks again, Luke & team!

North Shore carried out exterior repairs and replacements for the exterior of our residence, as well as the brick fence that surrounds our property. After the work commenced, I had a couple questions and concerns about some areas of our exterior that may have been missed or overlooked. Luke Bergman, the North Shore Project Manager, was extremely attentive to my questions and visited promptly to meet with me and work out a solution with myself and his crew that made everyone happy. He showed that our faith in him and his team was warranted, and we are very satisfied with the final result. We ended this process being very satisfied with the way Luke and North Shore's crews handle business! 5 Stars!

North Shore did a wonderful job with all the tuckpointing and lintel bar replacement work that our 3 story building in Oak Park needed. They spent a lot of time talking all the issues over with us before they started work and as work went on they sent really good pictures on the progress and few other issues that popped up along the way. I had 5 other companies come to give me estimates and theirs was in the middle cost wise and reasonable for all the work needed. A lot of the others did not spend the time that North Shore did explaining the work needed when they came. They were very prompt every day and the crew was very professional and pleasant to work with. They were great about clean up every day too and especially at the end. The entire staff at North Shore was a pleasure to work with. I would definitely hire them again.

North Shore did a great job fixing our chimney. They came out to evaluate it and explained everything well, the estimate also was clear and fully described the work to be done, and they were prompt in coming out and completing the work. The crew performing the repairs communicated with us and checked with us during the process, they completed the work on schedule, and the chimney looks a lot better, but, more importantly, is now stable and water tight.

The owner came out promptly and gave me an estimate. The work was scheduled in a timely fashion. Two men spent three days working on the project. They were very polite and quiet. They worked hard and did a beautiful job. One small grout line needed more attention after they left. The owner returned and had that line attended to. A very nice experience. I was amazed at how they returned an old floor to its original shine.

It was very positive. They offered the best price and they have an Angie's List discount. They were responsive. The only thing I would say that was interesting for future reference is to communicate a specific time frame. We paid a flat amount and it took quite awhile for them to finish the project. It wasn't a problem for us, but for someone who is in a hurry they might need to communicate that to the company. I would hire them again.

The work went well and overall, we are satisfied with the work. In fact, we have contracted with Northshore for some additional work. In general, the work was done on time, they cleaned up the mess each day and the workmen on site were courteous at all times. Where they had to remove some bushes, they replanted them after completing the work and the bushes appear to be thriving. All in all, we give Greg Lemke and Northshore a strong positive recommendation.

Greg came to the house to provide us with an estimate and started and finished the work in a timely fashion. He set up a scaffolding for himself paying special attention to our plants and the neighbors driveway. When the cutting started he made sure our windows and our neighbors windows were closed. All stones were labeled and reinstalled to maintain the original architecture of our home. The old vent hole was filled in and it was matched with stone and mortar so well you wouldn't even know there was a hole there last month. In regards to the lentals, the old lentals were removed and new ones were replaced. The new ones were coated with an anti-rust membrane and paint. The area was cleaned up at the end of the day.

Greg arrived immediately after my phone call to review the project. He was on time and very professional. I received the quote for the job and a copy of his insurance within a few days of discussing the project. I felt the quote was priced right where I had expected (I had two other quotes.) I chose Greg's quote based on the quality of some other work of his that I had seen. The project start was delayed about a week while Greg located bricks that were the exact size of what was already in the house. During this time, there were also numerous discussions on the exact arrangement of the new layout to ensure that I would be happy with the completed project. Once the actual work was started, it was completed within about three days due to good weather. The clean up work after the job was excellent.

Watch Our Fort Wayne Masonry Team in Action

This video highlights the level of craftsmanship and attention to detail our masonry team delivers on every project. Fort Wayne property owners rely on the same proven methods, materials, and quality standards shown here, whether it’s a chimney rebuild in South Wayne or a facade restoration on a historic building downtown.

FAQs | Fort Wayne, IN Masonry Contractor

What causes masonry damage on Fort Wayne buildings?

Freeze-thaw cycles are the primary driver. Fort Wayne winters push moisture into mortar joints and brick pores, where it freezes, expands, and breaks the material apart from the inside over repeated cycles. Road salt exposure accelerates deterioration on steps, foundations, and lower wall courses. High humidity and heavy seasonal rainfall keep masonry saturated longer than it should be, and the region’s flat terrain with poor natural drainage creates foundation moisture problems that show up as cracked walls and shifting brickwork. Older homes in historic neighborhoods like West Central, Harrison Hill, and South Wayne are especially vulnerable because of their age and original mortar composition.

How do I know if my building needs tuckpointing?

Look at your mortar joints. If you see crumbling, gaps between bricks, sandy residue at the base of the wall, or mortar you can scrape out with a key, repointing is overdue. Water stains on interior walls near exterior brick are another strong indicator. On many Fort Wayne homes built before 1940, the original mortar has weakened well past its useful life. Patching it with the wrong mortar type (using portland cement on a building that was originally lime mortar) creates a hardness mismatch that traps moisture and causes the brick to spall.

Do you handle chimney repair and rebuilding in Fort Wayne?

Yes. We repair chimney mortar, rebuild damaged sections, replace crowns, install caps, and apply waterproofing to prevent future damage. Fort Wayne chimneys take the worst freeze-thaw punishment on the building because they’re fully exposed on all sides with no shelter. Ice damming at the roofline accelerates mortar failure, and water entry through cracked crowns or deteriorated flashing can cause interior damage long before the chimney shows obvious exterior problems.

Can you match historic brick and mortar on older Fort Wayne homes?

Yes, and this is one of the most important parts of the job. Fort Wayne has one of the richest collections of historic residential architecture in Indiana, with neighborhoods like West Central featuring homes from the 1840s through the 1940s. We match brick color, size, texture, and mortar composition to the original materials. On designated historic properties, visible repair quality matters for both preservation compliance and property value. When standard suppliers don’t carry the right match, we source salvaged brick or custom-blended mortar to get it right.

What causes water leaks through brick walls?

Open mortar joints are the most common cause. Once the mortar erodes past a certain depth, wind-driven rain pushes water behind the brick face. Deteriorated sealants around windows, damaged chimney components, failed flashing, and cracked stucco also contribute. Fort Wayne’s high humidity and heavy rainfall keep masonry saturated for extended periods, which means even small mortar failures can lead to significant interior water damage if left unaddressed.

Do you work on both residential and commercial buildings?

Yes. We service single-family homes, multi-unit buildings, churches, institutional properties, and commercial facades throughout Fort Wayne and Allen County. Fort Wayne has significant historic church and institutional masonry stock that requires specialized restoration work. We also work with property managers and building owners on phased projects that require scheduling coordination and detailed documentation.

Do you replace rusted or failing lintels?

Absolutely. When a steel lintel above a window or door rusts, it expands (a process called rust-jacking) and pushes the brickwork above it out of alignment. This creates cracks, allows water in, and compromises structural support over the opening. We remove the failed lintel, install a new coated replacement, reflash the opening, and rebuild the surrounding brickwork. Lintel failure is one of the most common structural masonry issues we see on Fort Wayne’s older residential and commercial buildings.

How much does masonry repair cost in Fort Wayne?

It depends on the scope. A small tuckpointing job on one wall section is very different from a full chimney rebuild or a facade restoration on a commercial building. We provide free on-site inspections and written estimates so you know exactly what the project involves before any work begins. We’re not the cheapest option, but we deliver the best value: MCAA-certified work backed by a 2-year warranty. Visit our pricing page for realistic cost ranges.

How long do masonry repairs usually take?

Most small to medium repairs (tuckpointing a wall section, replacing a few bricks, or repairing a chimney crown) take one to two days. Larger restoration projects on commercial facades, churches, or multi-unit buildings may take one to three weeks depending on scope, weather conditions, and permit requirements. We give you a clear timeline upfront and keep you informed if anything changes.

What Fort Wayne area communities do you serve?

We serve all Fort Wayne neighborhoods and surrounding Northeast Indiana communities. Our crews work regularly in New Haven, Auburn, Huntington, Columbia City, Decatur, Bluffton, Kendallville, Angola, and Garrett. If your property is in the Fort Wayne area, we’ll come out and take a look. Request a free estimate.
